  • Tickets to the World Cup

    April 4, 2006

As many of you know we are planning a trip to Germany in June. Our original purpose was to go to the World Cup which is in Germany this year (it’s like the Olympics and only happens every 4 years) but our hopes started to dwindle as we found out how difficult it is to get tickets.

As the official website says, “Millions of football fans the world over are dying to get their hands on them. 3,070,000 of them corresponding to the net capacity of the twelve FIFA World Cup stadiums.”

Tickets for the matches were sold in phases. It’s a lottery so you put your name in for certain games and then they let you know if you won the lottery. Well, we didn’t win any of the lotteries so we thought we were in trouble. Recently they started selling Re-sale tickets (tickets that people returned). It’s very difficult to get these because you pretty much just have to go to the website and hit refresh looking for tickets to come up. It’s very random and you never know what games and number of tickets will be available.

Every evening Dusty and I come home, clicking the refresh button on ourlaptopss, waiting for a ticket to come up. We’ve gotten close a few times. Today was like every other. It’s 5pm and we’ve been trying to get tickets since noon. We finally succeeded in getting tickets. Everyone, we WILL be in Germany June 19th. I’ve included a little blurb about the World Cup.

According to FIFA World Cup official website “No other sporting event captures the world’s imagination like the FIFA World Cup. Ever since the first tentative competition in Uruguay in 1930, FIFA’s flagship has constantly grown in popularity and prestige.

Today, the FIFA World Cup holds the entire global public under its spell. An accumulated audience of over 37 billion people watched the France 98 tournament, including approximately 1.3 billion for the final alone, while over 2.7 million people flocked to watch the 64 matches in the French stadia.

After all these years and so many changes, however, the main focus of the FIFA World Cup remains the same – the glistening golden trophy, which is the embodiment of every footballer’s ambition. “

  • Ms. Pac-Man Arcade Machine

    January 17, 2006

Ms. Pac-Man is my favorite arcade game. Whenever Dusty and I go to the movies at the AMC and have time I make Dusty play Ms. Pac-Man with me. Around my birthday in September Dusty said he had an October gift for me. Needless to say I asked about it almost everyday until the end of October and in the end Dusty said the gift was not ready. He said he was making me something. Well, if any of you know Dusty very well you’ll know that woodworking and craftmanship is not his forta. Ladies, I don’t want you to think that he can’t do things around the house because he’s great at hanging pictures and putting together shelves for me but let’s just say he’s not renovating our place or anything anytime soon. So, when he said he was making me something I was absolutely intreged by what it could be. Finally at the end of November I came home to find my “October Present”.

It was an arcade machine. He made this arcade machine. He bought a black empyt arcade box, bought all of the buttons and coin despenser, joy sticks, and tv inside. He drilled the holes for everything and got a friend to paint the outside of the box so it would look like Ms. Pac-Man. He bought the sign for the top of the machine and put a light inside so it would light up. Inside is a computer that holds not only the Ms. Pac-Man game but hundreds of other arcade games as well as nintendo, game boy, and other video games.

Thinking back on the gift, I’m not sure if the gift was really for me or for him and his friends. It was a great gift though and took a lot of creative thinking on his part.

  • Skiing-Brek & Keystone

    January 5, 2006

The week between Christmas and New Year’s Dusty and I went skiing in Colorado with some of his friends. We stayed right outside of Frisco and Dillion and went skiing in Breckenridge and Keystone. It was my first time skiing on a REAL mountain. We have a small skiing area outside of Council Bluffs but there is no comparison to actual skiing in the mountains.

We all had a great time and no one got hurt too badly. The first two days we spent in Breckenridge and the third day we tried to go to Vail. It start snowing early in the morning and the passage way closed down so we ended up at Keystone. Katie and I let the boys have a day to themselves on the slopes. We went shopping and sat in the lodge drinking hot chocolate.
