Although I don’t have enough time to write a blog post on everything we’ve done this past year I want to share some of the pictures of the things we’ve done. I hope you enjoy!

Sometime in August Dusty called me, telling me he had a funny story. He shared it with me (and with the permission of the original story-teller) and since I thought it was such a great story I had to tell all of you. He said that he was driving somewhere and had to pull over because he was laughing so hard. I will admit (not happily though) that my husband reads his emails on his cell phone while he’s driving on occasion and while reading an email he had gotten from a business acquaintance he just couldn’t concentrate on driving. I couldn’t imagine an email so good that it would make you pull over so you could read it more thoroughly and after having him forward it to me, I can see where he might have wanted to read it a little closer. Here’s how the email went:
Hi there. Okay, so I pick up my daughter (16 years old) and her friends from the pool and she notices a business card I have in my cup holder of my car….she was in Youth Leadership Omaha (you may recall that group visited your office), but her friends were not and she notices that the card is Dusty Davidson’s from BrightMix (from the AIM mixer). This is the next ten minutes of my life as she’s talking to her friends…
“Oh my god, my mom knows Dusty Davidson. Oh my god, Dusty Davidson is the coolest most amazing guy. Oh my god…he buys Mountain Dew for all his employees, my mom won’t buy squat for her employees…Mom, why don’t you buy Mountain Dew for your employees like Dusty Davidson does? They love him. He also has this awesom office and everyone wants to work for him. He’s some smart computer, guy, I don’t know he does, but its so awesome. I can’t believe he would even speak to my dorky mother. Oh my God, you can’t believe how gorgeous he is…(insert detailed and flattering description of your personal appearance here). Dusty Davidson, yup…Dusty Davidson is soooo cute…I would marry Dusty Davidson. Dusty Davidson is the kind of man I want to marry.”
I guess that Dusty had spoken to a group of high schoolers before school got out last spring (they didn’t actually come to his office, he had gone to speak to them somewhere else) and touted about his company and how he did things like buy soda for everyone. Of course those are the type of things that high schoolers are concerned about at that age. I guess this was a whole day event and there were quite a few speakers but Dusty was one of the youngest ones there and probably one of the hippest in the eyes of his audience. Dusty knew this girl’s mom because of some other random event he had gone to and thus gave her his business card. I thought it was a cute story and just reminds me, I better watch out for those young girls. I guess I’m a pretty lucky gal, my husband owns his own business and buys his employees soda!
As many of you know, Dusty ran two marathons a few years back and it has always been a goal of mine to run a half marathon. This September I finally did it and am proud to say that I finished in a faster time than I had hoped for. I would like to thank Doreen, Jane, Sara, Rod, Suzane, Les, Stefanie, Keely, Alyssa (who ran the first 10K with me), and of course Dusty for coming to cheer me on. People have told me that it’s such a boost to have family and friends on the sidelines and it truly was for me. Everyone time I would see a familiar face I could feel the difference. A couple friends and I will be starting to train for the Lincoln Half Marathon, which will be in May. Wish me luck!
I’ve started taking up golf. A couple of Friday nights ago we went golfing with three other couples. It was a great time. The guys golfed together in a group of four and the girls followed behind in our own group. I’m not a very good golfer but it was a blast. It was a beautiful day, we had a few beers, drove our carts around and I only lost three balls.
I know this website is supposed to be all about our wedding but I would like to think that our website is also a place to update our friends and family about those people in our wedding party as well. We have lots of big news. Four of our friends recently got engaged. I guess when it rains it pours. Keely, my maid of honor, and her boyfriend Justin got engaged in San Diego while on vacation. Keely had even peaked in his luggage for any sign of a ring but Justin was just a step ahead of her. Keely was very surprised and he proposed on the balcony of their hotel watching their beautiful view. They will be getting married in June 2008. Josh Clanton and his girlfriend, Erin got engaged as well. Erin’s family is Irish and they will be getting married on St. Patrick’s Day this year. Andy Diller also proposed to his girlfriend, Sherry. They both are living in Colorado right now and while on a walk near one of the mountains he popped the big question. They will be moving back home in the next month and we are very excited. Steve Kenealy and his girlfriend, Katie also suprised us with a big announcement. Steve took Katie for a night on the town. He had bought a plane ride and dinner from a fundraiser. They stopped in a small town for dinner and as they were getting back on the plane to go back to Omaha Steve popped the big question. Katie was very happy. They are also getting married March 31st. Lots of planning for everyone.
This past weekend Justin, Keely, Dusty, and I made a road trip to Minneapolis, MN for the Minneapolis Marathon. Dusty and Keely ran the marathon andI ran the 10 mile race. Dusty’s dad, Dean was kind enough to host us so we were able to have a homemade pasta dinner the night before and rest up before the big race. The day before the race we had a leisurly day, Keely and I went shopping at the Mall of America while the guys went golfing.
The Minneapolis 10 Mile, also known as “The Shortcut to the Capitol,” race starts near the HHH Metrodome and shares the last seven miles of the marathon course, including the spectacular finish at the State Capitol. You can get a better idea of where we were running. The day of the race was beautiful, the weather couldn’t have been better and the spectators were wonderful!
My goal for the 10 miles was to run in 1 hour 40 minutes, a 10 minute mile pace. I met my goal by two seconds. Keely and Dusty ran the 26. 2 mile marathon in 5 hours and 7 minutes. Very impressive.
Dusty and I ran in the Omaha marathon to prepare for this weekends run. I ran the 10K (6.2 miles) and Dusty ran the half marathon (13.1 miles).
Well, it’s that time of year again. Some of you may remember that about this time last year, Dusty ran in the Omaha Marathon and Keely, my maid of honor, ran the half marathon. I cheered them both on as a spectator. You may also remember that Dusty almost swore off running completely after that. If you can believe it, he changed his mind. This year he’s decided to run another marathon and he’s got me to start running too. Dusty started training in March and I started shortly after. We decided to change the scenery a little and will be running in Minneapolis. Next weekend we will be running the Minneapolis Marathon, “The most beautiful urban marathon in America“. Dusty said anything has to be more beautiful than running through majestic North Omaha. This past Sunday, as a “warm up”, Dusty and I ran in the Omaha marathon. Dusty ran the half marathon and I ran the 10k! Dusty is a little crazy though, on Saturday he ran 18 MILES with Keely, which made his weekend running total 31 miles. The half marathon ended up being WAY more difficult than it should have been. He admits that it might have been a dumb to run so much the week before the BIG race. He seems to be doing fine after a few days of rest. Dusty finished the half marathon in 2 hours, 1 minute. That’s a 9:22 minute mile pace. Not bad. I ran the 10K in 1 hour 26 seconds. That’s a 9:44 minute mile pace. Not nearly as good as Dusty but I’m not ashamed.
Friday we celebrated Cinco de Mayo with some of our friends. I was also celebrating the beginning of my summer break, my last class took their final on Friday. We made festive food and had a pinata. It was a fun night! I wouldn’t suggest letting people swing at the pinata in your apartment, this is from personal experience.
